Issue #1

Netizens, lend us your ears. The very first issue of Stanza Cannon is here, and we are incredibly excited to get this grand experiment rolling. If this is your first visit, Stanza Cannon is a quarterly zine dedicated to publishing spoken poetry. You’re encouraged to find out more about our origin story and mission statement here, because this intro is dedicated to the poets daring enough to wager on a start-up zine with naught but a vision to its name.

Mixing the academic and avant garde, Issue No. 1 is an intimate affair that features 5 poems by 3 poets, all of whom should be applauded for their trifecta of excellent imagery, crafting, and delivery. You can listen below to the issue as a curated playlist or as individual pieces at your own leisure. Bios for each poet follow their individual contributions. Enjoy!

Bio: Annick Yerem is a Scottish/German poet who lives and works in Berlin. Annick tweets @missyerem and has been published, among other places, by River Mouth Review, Anti-Heroin-Chic, Rejection Letters, 192, Eat The Storms podcast, Green Ink Poetry, Open Collab, Sledgehammer Lit, and The Dirigible Balloon. Poet: James Penha
Bio: A native New Yorker, James Penha  (he/him🌈) has lived for the past three decades in Indonesia. Nominated for Pushcart Prizes in fiction and poetry, his work is widely published in journals and anthologies. His newest chapbook of poems, American Daguerreotypes, is available for Kindle. His essays have appeared in The New York Daily News and The New York Times. Bio: In an interweaving of influences, the poetry for this piece was inspired by the music of Paul Galdi (heard here featuring the talents of Zach LoPresti and Erik Scattareggia), which was then re-edited to the poem.
